The Whittlers Toolkit.

This is a list of tools I personally use. They are meant to help anyone getting started have an easier start to the craft. Maybe you can try and avoid the mistake I made of blowing money on the wrong stuff. Yeah, I get commission on these sales. Help a fella out.

The essentials.

The Morakniv 120. Finding a good knife is the most important part of getting started. You can waste a lot of money on the wrong knifes, or you could try this tried and true knife that cuts like butter at a great price.

Butternut. It is a beautiful soft wood that is easy on the hands. If you want the grain of the wood to show this is the one for you.

Flexcut Knife Strop. Keeping a sharp blade is going to make whittling the easiest and most enjoyable. You don’t need anything fancy, just this stop between projects.

Other necessities.

Gloves. Stay safe out there. Just wear one on the hand you are holding the wood with.

DMZ. After a while your blade is going to stop getting sharp or you notice choppy cuts in the wood. Thats when you need one of these to smooth the blade out and get rid of burs.

Basswood. The easiest wood to start with. Probably the softest wood to work with. The lack of grain makes it ideal for painting.

Expand your toolkit.

The Pfeil gouge #7. Ideal for making deeper cuts, whethers its deeper features on a face or working on a spoon.

The Pfeil gouge #5. Very similar to the #7 but I like to use this one for getting more detail around eyes.

The Pfeil bent #12. This is my go to for working deep wrinkles or working on texture of hair or fur.
